Technician’s notes:
We’ve had a very high success rate repairing this board. If you are experiencing any these symptoms listed above, the cluster is the most likely culprit.
Age is the main cause of failure, a repair will most likely outlast a used replacement.
The cluster is integrated into other units such as radio, climate control, door locks and windows. When the cluster fails it’s possible it may affect these units as well.
Removal:
1. To remove the unit from the truck, first pry out the headlight control switch on the left hand side. Unplug the switch and remove. 2. Remove the bolt behind that switch. 3. Move the steering wheel down and shift into low gear (make sure to truck is off and Parking brake is set). 4. Pop off the panel surrounding the steering wheel, there are no screws. 5. Remove the bolts holding the dash bezel under that panel and the 3 bolts holding the trim piece to the dash. 6. Pry the dash bezel and trim piece away from the dash. 7. Remove the 4 bolts holding the cluster to the dash. 8. Unplug the 2 connectors in the back of the cluster. 9. Pull the two black levers that are holding the PRND display to the center, it will simply pop away from the cluster. No need to remove the cable.
