Technician’s notes:
This engine control unit suffers from capacitor failure, along with circuit trace failure as a result. We correct both these issues solving many common faults with the unit.
Intermittent problems are very common with a defective ECU. It’s not uncommon for symptoms to appear one day and disappear the next.
Since age is the main cause of failure having the board rebuilt makes for good preventive maintenance.
Removal:
Unit varies depending on vehicle but most units are located inside the engine bay close to the firewall.
Please use caution when unclipping the wiring harness, the excess heat from the engine can make the harness plastic very brittle.
